Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council Home Ignition Zone Assessment Team (HIZ) will be here on Thursday, August 6, 2026, performing an HIZ BLITZ for our neighborhood. We have more than 30 homes signed up for this free assessment. The team would like to complete most of the assessments before work begins in September. So, look for a communication from the SCCFSC.

What is a Home Ignition Zone Assessment? ( HIZ)
An HIZ is a roughly 1-hour assessment of the outside area of your property that will include the structure itself and any flammable materials around your property. This assessment will help you develop a plan to harden your home against wildfire.

What if I'm not available on August 6th?
That's ok too, just know that it will take a while to circle back to you.

Isn't brush clearing work enough?
No, when a wildfire breaks out, our homes need to be already protected from fire. So it makes sense to harden your home now. Give your home some "curb appeal"!

How does this all come together?
When fire breaks out, houses will be seperated into 4 categories.

  • Blue dot=Home can survive without much support
  • Green dot=Savable
  • yellow dot=Savable but questionable/sketchy/unsafe
  • Red dot=Can't be saved.
